Constructive Rest Pose
Constructive Rest Pose – At first glance, some of the yoga postures I’m sharing might not seem like much of a “pose”, but some of the simplest shapes pack the most benefits for your body and mind. Take some time to find proper alignment in this simple shape and I think you’ll see what I mean.
Benefits: This pose releases excess tension and anxiety; aligns the spine and gently releases the psoas muscle where emotional tension is held. It’s also great for relieving back, pelvic and leg fatigue, and calming the mind.
How to: Rest on your back, bend the knees and place your feet on the floor. Tuck your shoulder blades under to slightly lift your heart, and rest your arms out from the body with the palms of the hands facing upward. You can also rest your hands on your belly or rib cage if that feels more soothing. Create length in the back of the neck by drawing your chin toward your chest, and then relax yourself. Close your eyes and follow the breath. Notice your inhale and exhale, and then slow and deepen the breath. Rest here for 5-10 minutes, continuing to notice the rhythm of your breath.
Mantra: “I take time out when the going gets tough.”
