Instant Maui Yoga Pose

Instant Maui Restorative Pose. The official name of this pose is Legs on a Chair, but I like the name my teacher calls it so that’s the one I use. “Instant Maui” because it feels like an instant vacation. Get it? You’re going to love this one!

Benefits: Similar to legs up the wall, this pose is soothing to the legs and low back, helps reduce swelling in the feet and legs, and helps with restless leg syndrome. I love the gentle pressure on the calf muscles in this pose – the compression helps with circulation. This pose also soothes the nervous system and calms the mind.

How to: Choose a chair to support the legs in a way that allows a 90˚ bend at the hips and the knees. I stacked a couple of blankets on my chair to raise the height a little. Rest with your back on the floor and calves on the chair. The shoulder blades are tucked down and under to lift the heart, and the back of the neck is long (make sure your chin isn’t jutting upward). Close your eyes and allow the breath to slow and deepen. Rest here for 5-10 minutes.

Mantra: “I allow rest and relaxation to wash over me.”
